What is a daydream, you ask? A daydream is something we WANT to see. Things we conjure that consciously, and maybe sometimes we follow a train of thought somewhere we didn’t expect to go, but the truth is that we still go there. We want you to take a metaphysical walk into these thoughts, whether they be good or bad.

Nightmares, though, ensnare us when we are at our most vulnerable. We are unwilling participants to what goes on in them. That’s really the difference. We are victims of our nightmares. But we are the perpetrators of our daydreams.

What We Accept
Speculative Fiction ONLY
Previously unpublished writing and art​
Simultaneous submissions are perfectly fine, just send either us or As Alive Journal an email to withdraw if you're accepted elsewhere
Submission Limits​
PROSE — you can submit 1 prose submission for this call. We will accept as many as 5.000 words, but prefer pieces that run under 4,000.
POETRY — you can submit up to 5 poetry submissions for this call. Each poem can be as many as 150 lines, but we prefer pieces that run under 100.
VISUAL ART — you can submit up to 5 pieces for this open call.
Formatting Your Written Submissions​​
Font and Size: Use Times New Roman, 12-point font.
Margins: Set your margins to 1 inch on all sides.
Line Spacing: Double-space your text.
Alignment: Align your text to the left. Do not justify. Please do not indent your lines.
Title: Do not include your name in the title of your document. Only include the title of the piece.

What We Will Not Accept
We will not publish literary fiction, realist fiction, or previously published pieces (we accept previously unpublished genre works only)
We will not read or publish hatred directed toward any marginalized group
We will not review anything AI-generated​​​​
